About the ultrasound scan
Ultrasound (sonography) uses high-frequency sound waves to create live images of organs, blood vessels and tissues. Because it uses no ionising radiation, it is the safest choice for pregnancy monitoring and repeat scans, and gives immediate, dynamic views your radiologist can assess on the spot.

How to prepare
1For an abdomen scan, fast for 6–8 hours beforehand for clearer images.
2For a pelvic or early-pregnancy scan, arrive with a full bladder (drink water, do not urinate).
3Wear loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to the scan area.
4Carry any prior scans and your doctor’s prescription.
What to expect
1You lie comfortably; a warm gel is applied to the skin.
2The radiologist moves a probe over the area — completely painless.
3The scan takes 15–30 minutes depending on the region.
