How to prepare
1Remove all metal — jewellery, watches, hairpins, coins, cards.
2Tell us in advance about any pacemaker, implant, metal fragments or pregnancy.
3Some scans need a contrast injection — we will advise if fasting is required.
4Arrive 15 minutes early to change into a gown and complete a safety check.
What to expect
1You lie on a padded table that moves into the scanner.
2The machine makes loud knocking sounds — earplugs or headphones are provided.
3Stay as still as possible; the technologist can hear and see you throughout.
4Most scans take 20–45 minutes; reports are typically ready in 2–3 hours.
